The Gee Bee R-3 is a air racer which never existed. It's the brain child of an Italian aircraft designer who made a drawing and two ARF kit manufactures came out with ARF kits from his drawings. Airworld has 120" wing span version and Donuts Models has a 58" version.
I wanted somthing in between so I'm scratch building from photos.
I began by free handing top and side views and then drew plans of bulkheads, stringers, etc.
The wing span and length are 88" and it will be powered by a Taurus 62cc gas engine. The wing is built and the fuselage is coming along. The fuselage is being sheeted with 3/32 balsa. The wing is foam sheeted with balsa. The landing gear is aluminum.
Our Basset Hound, Amanda, is the construction inspector.

Looking good. How do the others do in terms of yaw with a rudder like that?

Don't know. The whole project is based on " Give it full throttle and hope for the best". I've seen video of the big Airworld version flying and it flies well. The first flight should be interesting.

Hmm... I did a design a while back that had a rudder that was short like that behind a wide body, and it yawed quite a bit, it took a good bit of rudder to get it to move. I'd just keep that in mind. Though this one might be different.

Just got back from a trip. Blackjack theme. Mostly black with some red. Ace and Jack of spades cards on the wings. Lettering will be "GEE BEE - 21" & "BLACKJACK"

Black solartex fabric trimmed with red solartex fabric. I'm going to contact some vinyl decal suppliers for the lettering and decals.
