What flying group was the first to put the shark's teeth on the P-40?

If no one gets this in the next 2 days, I'll post the correct answer.

Jim

Key word, Group. The American Volunteer Group started by Claire Lee Chennault. Later they became known as the "Flying Tigers".

Jim, I suppose you realize that if someone is looking at this forum, then they have internet access..... which makes even the toughest question just a few searches away. Gonna have to step it up some other way.....perhaps an impromptu quiz at the meetings.

Well, Grasshopper, you didn't think I'd ask a question with an answer that obvious did you? That was the answer I expected, but not the correct one.

Dig deeper boys n girls. It may not be that easy to form a query for the web search.

Heh heh heh. (Evil laugh.)

p-51a. With the Alison engine that would be "slower than a Merlin". I hate it when I should know the real answer and can't strain it out of the brain sludge.

Randy, do you mean the first name, or the first one used by the USAAF?

Well,

You had me on that one. All the history I've read indicated Claire Chennault's group was the first one to put the sharks teeth on the first P-40's when they went into AAF service in 1941.

There were Two names actually. One was for the P-51A and the second name was for the A-36. The second name was used by another AAF aircraft but it was made by the Douglas Aircraft Corporation.
