Who We Are

The Montrose Model Aircraft Association focuses on two things: having fun and flying!

Whether you are an experienced flyer or a beginner wanting to learn more about RC Aviation, we invite you to come join us. Our 26 active members are eager to share their knowledge to help you get started in the fun-filled world of flying remote controlled aircraft. Family members and spectators are welcome to watch as we fly a variety of planes with the majestic vistas of Western Colorado as our backdrop.

We own an expansive 83 acre flying field that is surrounded by BLM land northeast of Olathe. Every New Year's Day, we hold a Chili Fly for those intrepid aviators willing to brave the cold and get their planes airborne on the first day of the year. During the flying season, which is April through November, we hold monthly Fun Flys where we grill burgers and have a great time socializing as well as flying. In addition, we host monthly Night Flys, when we fly planes that are illuminated with colorful LED lights, while experiencing the thrill of landing in the dark. A highlight of the year is hosting a booth at the Montrose Tribute to Aviation, where we display our various model aircraft including Warbirds, trainers, gliders, and sport planes.
